Heavy Inflow from Upstream
On Monday, the waters of the Krishna River surged and reached the Pothireddypadu Head Regulator, a lifeline for the Rayalaseema region. Irrigation department data indicates that the water level at the Srisailam reservoir rose to 854.5 feet by evening, following an inflow of 1.71 lakh cusecs of floodwater from the upstream Jurala project. Last year, due to early floods, public representatives had released water from Pothireddypadu to the downstream Rayalaseema region as early as July 6th to meet drinking and irrigation needs.
