Jal Jeevan Mission Funds Suspended
The central government announced in the Rajya Sabha that it is suspending funds for the remaining works under the Jal Jeevan Mission. In this scheme, launched in 2019, ₹2.08 lakh crore has already been spent by 2024-25, with only 81.5% of the work completed. Having identified irregularities in several states, the central government has clarified that the states themselves must bear the cost of the remaining works. It will provide the ₹67,670 crore allocated for FY26-27 for maintenance. Meanwhile, the central government recently approved works worth ₹23,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh.
