'Ji Ramji' name for MGNREGA: Priyanka condemns, Shivraj supports
New Delhi, December 18: The Lok Sabha approved the bill brought in the name of 'Ji Ramji' to replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. The bill was passed amid agitations and protests by opposition MPs. However, opposition members stormed the well and protested, demanding that the bill be sent to the standing committee. Responding to the opposition members' protests, the Speaker said that the bill was discussed at length. The opposition members, who were further enraged by this, tore up the copies of the bill. The speaker announced that the bill was approved amid their concerns. After the approval of the bill in the Lok Sabha, this bill will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha.
Confusion in Lok Sabha
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, DMK leader TR Balu, Samajwadi Party leader Dharmendra Yadav and many members of opposition parties have strongly opposed the G Ramji bill. Agitation was taken up in the House against the Bill. He alleged that removing Mahatma Gandhi's name from this scheme is an insult to the father of the nation and the bill brought by the central government will put more burden on the states.
On the other hand, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan supported G Ramji's bill. Shivraj Singh, who spoke on the bill in the Lok Sabha, reminded that the Congress government had given Nehru's name to many schemes. He criticized that now NDA is questioning the government. He also denied Priyanka Gandhi's comments that the government has an evil intention to change names. He said that only the opposition parties have the intention to change their names. He said that his government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will focus only on work. The Union Minister emphasized that MGNREGA is nothing but a tool of corruption and the new law was brought only after consultation with everyone.
Opposition members expressed further anger over Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's comments. Many MPs entered the House well and protested against the bill. Copies of bills were torn. On this occasion, Speaker Om Prakash Birla said.. 'People have not sent you here to tear papers. The country is watching you.' He warned the opposition members. Later the meeting was adjourned.
After the adjournment of the House, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra spoke to the media outside the Parliament. He said that the Opposition strongly opposed the G Ramji Bill brought by the Central Government. Anyone who has read the details of the bill will understand how the rural employment guarantee scheme is going to be completed. This bill will put more financial burden on the states. States are likely to suffer financially. MGNREGA scheme was pro-poor. But, now the bill brought by the central government is completely against the poor. Priyanka criticized the central government.
Union Minister SP Singh Baghel said. He said that bill papers were torn in the House. He said that there is no place for such actions in democracy. Ji Ramji said that the bill was discussed at length.. However, it is outrageous that the opposition members are tearing the copies of the bill. The Union Minister made it clear that this bill was brought for the benefit of the people.
Union Minister Chirag Paswan said that the behavior of the opposition members in the Lok Sabha is not acceptable at all. You have the right to object. But, this kind of behavior is wrong. It is not appropriate to tear copies of bills, make airplanes, throw them at the speaker. The members of the Congress party, which claims to be the oldest party in the country, behave like this. Opposition members are opposing the name given to the bill. But, the name of Rama is very favorite name of that Mahatma Gandhi. He said 'Hey Ram' even when he was taking his last breath," said the Union Minister.
