New Delhi: UNESCO has included India's iconic festival, Diwali, in the list of world's intangible cultural heritage. This has further enhanced India's prestige in the world. Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said on Wednesday that the inclusion of Diwali in UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List is a recognition of the festival's immense cultural, religious, and spiritual significance and its role in uniting people. UNESCO Recognition: Diwali (Deepawali) was added to UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on Wednesday, sparking celebrations to mark this prestigious honor. The decision was taken at a significant UNESCO conference being held at the Red Fort in Delhi. In a post on Instagram, Jaishankar wrote, "I am delighted that Diwali has been included in UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This is a recognition of the festival's immense cultural, religious, and spiritual significance and its role in bringing people together." Several other Indian festivals have also been included in UNESCO's list. Diwali is not the only Indian festival to be included in UNESCO's list; many festivals have already been included in this list. Diwali is now the sixteenth Indian festival to be included in UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This list joins 15 other festivals and traditions previously included in this list. These include the Kumbh Mela, Kolkata's Durga Puja, Gujarat's Garba dance, yoga, the tradition of Vedic chanting, and Ramlila – the traditional theatrical performance of the Ramayana epic.
