Stampede.. Police vs TVK
The police and TVK party have been at loggerheads over the Karur stampede. The police said, ‘Vijay, who was supposed to come for the meeting in the afternoon, arrived at 7 am. The crowd had already grown enormously and the situation had gotten out of hand.’ However, TVK, in its petition filed in the Madras High Court, has stated that the stampede occurred when the police, who were supposed to control the fans, resorted to lathicharge.
