Temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir have dropped below freezing, with snowfall expected.
According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog will prevail in Delhi-NCR and other areas on the morning of December 28. Meanwhile, temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir have dropped below freezing. A new spell of snowfall is expected in several parts of Kashmir. According to the IMD, dense to very dense fog is likely at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, and dense fog is likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, East Madhya Pradesh, Jammu region, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Uttarakhand.
In Uttar Pradesh, the cold wave and fog continued on Saturday, and the daytime temperature remained below normal. According to the India Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in Lucknow was recorded at 18 degrees Celsius, 3.1 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature was 10.8 degrees Celsius, 3.4 degrees above normal. The Meteorological Department has predicted dense fog in Lucknow and surrounding areas during the late night and morning hours, while the sky will remain clear during the day.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 19 degrees and 10 degrees Celsius respectively. Issuing a state-wise warning, the department said that dense to very dense fog is expected at some places in western Uttar Pradesh and at many places in the eastern parts, and cold conditions are likely to prevail. According to the department, the daytime temperature remained below normal in several districts, with Gorakhpur recording 13.2 degrees Celsius (7.4 degrees below normal) and Prayagraj recording 16.8 degrees Celsius (6.1 degrees below normal).
Cold wave effect in these areas
In Varanasi, Bareilly, Etawah, Bahraich and Barabanki, the temperature was also four to six degrees below average. The minimum temperature in most parts of the state ranged between six and 11 degrees Celsius, with Etawah recording 6.2 degrees and Barabanki and Churk recording seven degrees Celsius. The department advised caution during the morning hours due to reduced visibility caused by dense fog, especially in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
