Ukraine retaliates 24 hours after Russia's bridge attack
Kyiv: Ukraine has retaliated within 24 hours for Russia's blowing up of a key bridge in Kyiv's Dnepropetrovsk region on Friday. The Ukrainian military claimed it targeted and destroyed a vital fuel pipeline in the Moscow region that supplied fuel to the Russian military. The Ukrainian intelligence agency said on Saturday that the attack was in response to Russia's recent large-scale drone and missile attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
Ukrainian Military Intelligence (HUR) said in a statement on its Telegram channel that the attack took place late Friday night. The agency said the action was a serious blow to the Russian military. According to HUR, its forces targeted the "Koltsevoy pipeline," a 400-kilometer (about 250-mile) long pipeline that supplies gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel to the Russian military from refineries in Ryazan, Nizhny Novgorod, and Moscow.
The pipeline supplied 3 million tons of jet fuel annually.
According to reports, the attack took place near the Ramensky district, targeting infrastructure and destroying all three major fuel lines. HUR reported that the pipeline was capable of supplying approximately 3 million tons of jet fuel, 2.8 million tons of diesel, and 1.6 million tons of gasoline annually. This move by Ukraine is being seen as retaliatory action after Russia recently attacked a bridge carrying military and other equipment and logistics supplies to the Ukrainian army in the Dnepropetrovsk region. The ongoing conflict between the two countries could escalate further in the coming days.
Ukrainian drones approached Moscow
Ukrainian drones approached Moscow on Saturday. Areas approximately 180 kilometers from the Russian capital, Moscow, were evacuated due to the Ukrainian drone attack. Residents of at least 50 homes were immediately evacuated.
