Wholesale Price Inflation Hits 42-Month High
Wholesale Price Inflation (WPI) has surged significantly, reaching 8.30 percent in April. Notably, this marks a 42-month high. The rise in fuel prices—triggered by the conflict in West Asia—has driven this acceleration in wholesale price inflation. While this inflation stood at 3.88 percent in March, it was at 0.85 percent in April of the previous year. The escalation in the prices of fuel, electricity, and crude petroleum has been the primary driver behind this inflationary surge. Specifically, WPI-based inflation within the fuel and power sector soared to a staggering 24.71 percent in April.
