Why are twins named Rama and Lakshmana?
In the Ramayana, only Lakshmana and Shatrughna were twins. Yet, the bond between Rama and Lakshmana has become an ideal for everyone. There are several reasons for this. Lakshmana was always by Rama's side. He went to the forests even when it wasn't necessary and fought in the war. Because of this extraordinary brotherly love and unity, when twins are born, they are given the names Rama and Lakshmana so that they too may remain united. This is a tribute to the bond between them, rather than just their birth.
