The Tungabhadra Reservoir—which provides irrigation water to hundreds of thousands of acres across the states of Rayalaseema, Karnataka, and Telangana—has become the stage for yet another historic milestone. Putting an end to the year-long concerns surrounding the safety of this critical dam, the modernization process for all 33 crest gates was successfully completed on Saturday. This massive undertaking—launched on February 16, 2026, to preserve this engineering marvel with a history spanning nearly seven decades—was executed on a war footing.
