‘Abu Salem will escape’... Government objects to parole
The Bombay High Court heard the parole petition of gangster Abu Salem, who is serving a life sentence in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case. He applied for parole following the death of his brother, but the Maharashtra government told the court that there was a risk of Abu Salem escaping if he was granted 14 days of parole. It suggested that only 2 days of parole should be granted if absolutely necessary. Previously, Salem had escaped to Portugal, from where he was brought back to India.
