The state of water resource conservation in Telangana is a cause for concern. According to the latest 'Second Census of Water Bodies' released by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, it has been revealed that a significant number of water bodies in the state have disappeared. The report on the census conducted in 2024-25 has just been released. According to the report, while the state had 64,056 water bodies in 2017-18, the current count has dropped to 53,685; this means that 10,371 water bodies have disappeared over a period of eight years.
