Blast in Doha: Qatar enraged by Israeli attack on Hamas leadership
There has been a massive explosion in Qatar's capital Doha. The blast took place at a time when the Israeli army said on Tuesday that it had carried out an airstrike targeting the Hamas leadership. This announcement came when the sound of an explosion was heard in Qatar's capital Doha. Al Jazeera has confirmed the explosions. However, it did not say what was the cause of the explosion.
Qatar furious at Israel
An Israeli official has told the Associated Press that it has targeted the Hamas leadership in Qatar's capital Doha. The official said this on the condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to say anything beyond the public statement. Qatar has condemned the "cowardly Israeli attack" on Hamas' political headquarters in its capital Doha. Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid al-Ansari has described it as a "gross violation of all international laws and norms".
Hamas' exiled leadership is in Qatar
Hamas' exiled leadership has long been based in Qatar. This same leadership has played a mediating role in negotiations between Hamas and Israel for many years, both during the recent war in the Gaza Strip and before that. An attack on the top Hamas leadership in Doha could further complicate negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages taken in Hamas' October 7, 2023 attack.
