Tax exemption on ₹200 meals per day!
The government has proposed to increase the tax exemption given to employees on meals in the Income Tax Rules 2026. Earlier it was ₹50 per day, but it has been decided to increase it to ₹200. If this is finalized, employees will be able to claim tax deduction of ₹1,05,600 per year under meal expenses. This benefit is applicable to those filing ITR under the old tax regime. Clarity on the new regime is yet to be provided.
