A gruesome incident of crime and murder has come to light from the Puri district of Odisha. Reports indicate that a man was brutally murdered in the Kanas area of Puri district, driven by the lure of a gold idol and jewelry. The victim's hands and feet were tied to a cot before he was burned alive. The police have arrested three individuals in connection with the case. The deceased has been identified as Parashuram Pradhan. According to the police, the incident occurred on August 11 in Mandrabast village, under the jurisdiction of the Kanas police station. Investigations revealed that the accused tied Parashuram's hands and feet to a cot, poured kerosene on him, and set him on fire. Three people have been arrested for the murder. They have been identified as Rajkishore Sahu and Suresh Sahu from Tapang in Khurda district, and Satyabrata Mallick from Kendrapara. The police are now investigating the specific roles of the accused and the entire sequence of events leading up to and following the murder. Police investigations so far suggest that the matter originated from a different dispute. It is reported that Rajkishore Sahu had initially sought Parashuram Pradhan's help to end a romantic relationship involving his brother. Rajkishore had paid Parashuram ₹19,000 for this task. Subsequently, the lure of a gold idol and jewelry became part of the affair. According to Puri SP Prateek Singh, Parashuram later told Rajkishore that a vessel containing a gold idol and jewelry was buried in a plot of land. Following this claim, Rajkishore allegedly agreed to retrieve the items. In this connection, Parashuram took approximately ₹2 lakh from Rajkishore. Rajkishore hoped to profit once the gold idol and jewelry were recovered from the ground. Police are investigating the roles of the accused. However, when the specified location was excavated, the alleged gold idol and jewelry were not found. Subsequently, Rajkishore began demanding the return of his money from Parashuram. Police state that Parashuram allegedly failed to repay the amount, leading to an escalating dispute between the two. After failing to recover the money, Rajkishore conspired with Suresh Sahu and Satyabrata Mallick to kill Parashuram. It is alleged that the trio then confronted Parashuram. According to the police, they allegedly tied his hands and feet to a cot, poured kerosene on him, and set him ablaze. Parashuram died as a result of the incident. Notably, a similar incident had previously occurred in Odisha's Kandhamal district, where two nephews murdered their uncle after he tried to stop them from farming. During the investigation into the crime in Puri, the police gathered information regarding the individuals involved and the sequence of events. As the investigation progressed, the police identified and arrested three suspects. Puri SP Prateek Singh stated that the three accused were identified during the murder investigation and subsequently arrested. The police are now working to piece together the details of the entire incident. Investigative agencies are trying to determine when and how the murder was planned and the specific roles played by each of the three accused. Preliminary police investigations suggest that a dispute involving money—and allegedly the greed for a gold idol and jewelry—escalated to the point where it resulted in murder. The police are currently interrogating the three accused, and the investigation into the exact sequence of events and the role of each individual continues.
