Varanasi: The Eternal Abode of Shiva and Parvati, and a Place of Salvation
According to the Puranas, at the request of Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva left Kailash and made Kashi (Varanasi) on the banks of the Ganges his permanent residence. That is why Kashi shines as the home of Shiva and Parvati and a city of salvation. It is believed that a darshan (sight) of the Vishwanath Jyotirlinga here removes sins. In this sacred place, where life and death converge, Lord Shiva himself grants salvation to those who die here. Therefore, Kashi holds immense spiritual significance in Indian culture.
