What materials should be used for cleaning idols?
Chemicals should not be used to clean idols of deities. It is best to use natural materials such as turmeric, kumkum, sacred ash (vibhuti), and lemon juice. Especially, copper and brass idols will shine like new if cleaned with tamarind or lemon. After washing, wipe them thoroughly with a dry cloth and let them dry. Doing this will prevent the energy of the idols from diminishing. Remember, it is forbidden to give water baths to the idols on Tuesdays and Fridays.
