Toronto: Police in Toronto, Canada, have arrested a suspect nearly seven months after the murder of 30-year-old Himanshi Khurana, a woman of Indian origin. The accused has been identified as Abdul Ghafoori, whom Canadian police had been seeking in connection with the killing of 30-year-old Himanshi Khurana. Khurana was found dead inside a home in December 2025. According to the police, Khurana and Ghafoori were in an "intimate partner relationship." Khurana had gone missing from the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area, prompting a search by authorities. She was found dead around 6:30 AM on December 20. Accused arrested and charged with first-degree murder Following this, the police launched a full investigation and released photographs and video footage of Ghafoori. On August 7—seven months after the incident—police arrested him and charged him with first-degree murder. In a statement, the Toronto Police Service said, "Members of the Toronto Police Fugitive Squad and the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit contacted national and international policing partners to assist in the accused's return to Canada. On Friday, August 7, 2026, Abdul Ghafoori, 32, of Toronto, was located and arrested." India expressed grief over Himanshi's murder Meanwhile, the Consulate General of India in Toronto had expressed grief over Khurana's murder. A statement issued by the Consulate General read, "We are deeply saddened and shocked by the murder of a young Indian national, Ms. Himanshi Khurana, in Toronto. We extend our deepest condolences to her grieving family during this time of profound sorrow." The statement further added, "The Consulate has been closely monitoring the matter over the past few days and, in coordination with local authorities, is providing all possible assistance to the family." Similar incidents occurred last month as well. It is worth noting that last month, a 26-year-old woman of Indian origin was shot dead in Toronto, Canada. A 37-year-old man, also of Indian origin, was arrested on charges of murder. The deceased woman was identified as Navneet Kaur, while the accused arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police was identified as Sharanjit Singh from Brampton. According to investigators, an argument had broken out between the woman and the suspect. Following this, the man shot her and fled the scene before the police arrived; he was later located and arrested. Meanwhile, in Edmonton—the capital of Alberta province—another woman of Indian origin was killed by her partner. Ritesh Kumar was arrested in connection with this case and charged with second-degree murder. He is accused of strangling his 23-year-old partner, Damanpreet Kaur, to death.
