Bangkok School Shooting Leaves Eight Dead
An eighth-grade student opened fire indiscriminately at a school in Bangkok, Thailand, killing eight people, including three teachers. Providing new details about the incident, police stated that the student suspected of the deadly shooting had shot and killed his grandparents at home before attacking his school near Bangkok. In addition to the shooter's grandparents, four students and three teachers were killed in the attacks. According to the police, the teenage shooter—who was a student at the school—shot himself and died.
**Grandparents Killed at Home**
Police reported that the student attacker was in the eighth grade and had shot his grandparents at home before heading to school. He then arrived at the school and fired indiscriminately at students and teachers. Officials are investigating to determine the motive behind both attacks. Police believe the gun used in the shooting was obtained from a family member.
The student's sudden, indiscriminate firing caused chaos at the school; students fled the campus, and the injured were transported to the hospital by ambulance. Teachers were seen hugging each other and weeping outside the school. An 18-year-old student recounted that, initially, the sound of gunfire resembled firecrackers. He said, "At first, I didn't think it was the sound of a gun. Shots were fired multiple times: bang-bang-bang. Then there was silence. Then the shooting started again."
**Students Shot in the Back and Chest**
Emergency service personnel reported that many victims sustained gunshot wounds to the chest, back, and arms. Thailand's Education Minister, Prasert Jantararuangtong, confirmed that the fatalities included both teachers and students. Emergency service worker Kiatikhun Werapongpradit stated that his team arrived at the school while the shooting was still underway. He reported that the rescue team found a male teacher dead on the upper floor of the school. In another room, they found a female teacher who had been shot in the chest and arm. Police stated that 15 people were injured.
