Border ceasefire brokered by Türkiye and Qatar
Islamabad: Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that the ceasefire with Afghanistan rests on just one clause. This ceasefire is based on the Taliban's promise to rein in the terrorists attacking their country from across the border. This statement of Pak Defense Minister Khawaja Asif came a day after both sides agreed to ceasefire following talks in Doha. Qatar and Turkey have played an important role in the ceasefire between the two countries.
there will be no intrusion
According to Pakistani newspaper Dawn, Asif said that anything coming from Afghanistan would be a violation of this agreement. Everything hinges on this one clause. He said that in the agreement signed between Pakistan, Afghanistan, Türkiye and Qatar, "it was clearly stated that there will be no infiltration". He said, "We have a ceasefire agreement, unless there is any violation of this agreement, there will be ceasefire on the border." Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the main objective of the ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan is to eliminate the threat of terrorism.
It is necessary to end terrorism immediately
In an interview with Al-Jazeera Arabic, Minister Khawaja Asif said terrorism has been affecting the border areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan for years, according to state Radio Pakistan. He said that both the countries have come to the conclusion that it is necessary to end terrorism immediately and both the countries will make serious efforts to stop terrorism. If this does not happen, there could be a serious threat to the peace of the area.
Meeting will be held in Istanbul next week
Asif said that another meeting will be held in Istanbul next week to finalize the details of the agreement. He said that Afghan Defense Minister Mullah Yaqoob acknowledged that terrorism is the main cause of tension in our relations, which will now be resolved. They hope that now peace will return, and relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan will become normal. Once relations between the two countries are normal, Pakistan-Afghanistan trade and transit will also resume and Afghanistan will be able to use Pakistani ports.
Let us tell you that there is tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan since 2023. Pakistan has repeatedly expressed concern that terrorists are using Afghan soil to carry out attacks from across the border. The situation worsened following repeated terrorist attacks by TTP, including a recent attack in Orakzai district of restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which 11 Pak Army personnel, including a Lieutenant Colonel and a Major, were killed.
