Fines for owners if cattle roam on highways
New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided to impose fines on owners who allow their cattle to roam on highways. A circular regarding this has been issued to the states. This decision follows the Supreme Court taking *suo motu* cognizance of accidents caused by stray cattle. The Ministry has directed authorities to identify cattle owners and take action to impose fines. It was suggested that areas with a high prevalence of stray cattle menace be identified using GPS and reviewed every six months.
