Hallmarking fee hike
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has taken a key decision to revise the hallmarking charges on gold jewellery ahead of the festive season. It has announced that the hallmarking fee on each piece of gold jewellery has been increased from Rs.45 to Rs.75 (with a minimum consignment charge of Rs.200), while the fee on silver jewellery has been kept unchanged at Rs.35. However, the All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) has expressed serious concerns over this decision, which has come into effect with immediate effect.
