Bengaluru:  On Wednesday, the Karnataka government took a significant decision, granting students the permission to wear the Hijab, the sacred thread (Jandhyam), and the Peta (traditional headgear) within school premises. In 2022, the BJP government led by Yediyurappa had issued orders banning the Hijab. The current Congress government has now withdrawn those orders. It is a well-known fact that, at the time, the issue of female students wearing the Hijab to classrooms in a junior college in the Udupi district had sparked a major controversy.
