Mother of Rape Victim Enters Bengal Electoral Fray
As widely anticipated, the BJP has fielded the mother of the RG Kar Hospital rape victim as a candidate in the Bengal Assembly elections. In its third list of candidates—which featured 19 names—the party announced that she would be contesting from the Panihati constituency. She had previously stated that she joined the BJP with the sole objective of ousting the TMC from power. She alleged that there is a complete lack of safety for women in Bengal and that corruption has spiraled out of control. She further criticized the administration under Mamata Banerjee, asserting that no section of the public is truly happy under her rule.
