MPP Reservations Based on State-Level Unit
Amaravati: The government has taken a key decision regarding the determination of Mandal Praja Parishad (MPP) reservations in the context of local body elections. The dedicated commission recommended allocating lower reservation quotas for Backward Classes (BCs) in districts with high SC populations. It suggested allocating only 10% reservation for BCs in districts like Nellore and Tirupati; the rationale was that, despite having a significant BC population, the SC and ST populations in these districts are even larger, necessitating a lower allocation for BCs.
