New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that a passport is a document issued by the government to regulate foreign travel undertaken by Indian citizens. This clarification follows a controversy regarding an earlier statement which asserted that a passport is merely a travel document and not proof of Indian citizenship. Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal explained on Tuesday that it is strictly a document for regulating foreign travel.
