Pigeon peas instead of paddy
With the cultivation of Kharif crops becoming uncertain due to the impact of El Niño, the state government has advised farmers to minimize paddy cultivation and refrain from sowing cotton seeds after the 20th of this month. Specific recommendations regarding crop cultivation have been issued based on the state's zones and districts. Priority has been given to cultivating alternative crops and intercrops. Farmers have been advised to grow pigeon peas (red gram), millets, and oilseeds instead of paddy. Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao released the first phase of the action plan in light of the El Niño situation.
