School Gun Attack Injures 15 Students in Thailand
A student opened fire indiscriminately at a school in a province just north of Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. The eighth-grade student first shot a teacher and then turned the gun on himself. At least 15 students were injured in the shooting. According to local media reports, a teacher and the student shooter died in the incident, which took place on Friday (August 7, 2026). Local broadcaster 'Thai PBS' reported, "A shooting has occurred at a prominent high school in the Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province. Initial reports indicate that seven people have died so far."
**Education Minister Orders Investigation**
Thailand's Education Minister, Prasert Chantararuangthong, assured immediate action and assistance following the school shooting and urged caution regarding the sharing of sensitive information. On X, he stated, "I am currently in Ubon Ratchathani province on official business and am closely monitoring the situation. I have instructed all agencies under the Ministry of Education to work swiftly with relevant authorities and organizations to resolve the situation quickly, prioritize the safety of students, teachers, and staff above all else, and immediately assess the physical and mental condition of all those affected to provide them with full support and assistance."
**Education Minister Appeals to the Public**
He further added, "I appeal to the public and the media for cooperation: please do not forward or disseminate sensitive images, videos, or information—especially those showing the deceased, the injured, students, or individuals connected to the incident—nor share unverified information, as this could impact the rights, privacy, and mental health of the families and those affected."
He also expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. It is worth noting that this region has one of the highest rates of gun ownership in Thailand. It is estimated that there are approximately 10 million guns in circulation there—that is, one gun for every seven residents.
