US Interest Rates Remain Unchanged
The US central bank, the Federal Reserve, has decided to maintain its key interest rate range at the current level of 3.5–3.75 percent. Despite pressure from President Donald Trump to lower interest rates, the new Fed Chairman, Kevin Warsh, did not heed the demands. Key factors influencing this decision included a significant rebound in retail sales last month—even though inflation had reached 4.2 percent—and expectations that price pressures would ease following the end of the war with Iran.
