Why should the Ravi tree be worshipped?
The Ravi tree is a literal embodiment of Vishnu. Ravi sticks are used in the ‘Arani Madhanam’, which creates fire in yagnas. Its medicinal properties ward off illnesses. It is believed that if childless people circumambulate this tree because it has the property of removing pregnancy defects, they will have children. Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment under this tree. That is why, along with the god, these Ravi trees are also worshipped in temples.
