YouTube and Instagram Designed to Create Addicts: Los Angeles Court
A Los Angeles court has delivered a landmark verdict in favor of a 20-year-old woman who suffered from mental health issues due to social media addiction. The court ruled that Instagram and YouTube were intentionally designed to create addicts out of children. Consequently, the court imposed fines of $2.1 million on Meta and $900,000 on Google. The plaintiff alleged that her usage of these platforms from a young age led to her developing anxiety and depression.
