Founded by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar
Founded by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in 1925 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, the RSS was established as a volunteer-based organization with the goal of promoting cultural awareness, discipline, service, and social responsibility among citizens.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is a unique, people-driven movement for national reconstruction. Its rise is seen as a response to centuries of foreign rule, and its continued growth is attributed to the emotional resonance of its vision of India's national pride rooted in Dharma.
The Sangh's Goal: All-Round Development of India
The Sangh's primary focus is on patriotism and national character building. It instills devotion to the motherland, discipline, restraint, courage, and valor. The Sangh's ultimate goal is India's "all-round progress" (all-round development), to which every volunteer dedicates themselves.
The RSS has played a significant role in these areas over the past century
Over the past century, the RSS has played a significant role in the fields of education, health, social welfare, and disaster relief. RSS volunteers have actively participated in relief and rehabilitation work during natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and cyclones. Furthermore, various RSS affiliate organizations have contributed to empowering youth, women, and farmers, promoting public participation, and strengthening local communities.
The centenary celebrations not only honour the historical achievements of the RSS but also highlight its lasting contribution to India's cultural journey and its message of national unity.
