Himachal: Teacher makes a big mistake in English while writing a cheque, gets suspended
A check issued by a teacher in Sirmaur district, Himachal Pradesh, is rapidly going viral on social media. When the teacher wrote 7616 in English, it contained so many errors that it shocked everyone who saw it. After the check went viral on social media, action was taken against the teacher who filled it out. The incident occurred at a government school in Sirmaur district, where the teacher has been suspended. A few days ago, a photo of the check issued by him, riddled with spelling errors, went viral on social media. This photo raised concerns about the quality of education in government schools.
The Directorate of School Education has taken action against Attar Singh, a drawing teacher at the Government Senior Secondary School in Rohanat. He issued a check for ₹7,616 on September 25th. However, the number was written in words as "Seven Thursday Six Harendra Sixtey." Due to the spelling errors, the check went viral on social media, leading to public ridicule.
Teacher ordered to appear before Director of Education
Officials stated that the Directorate has taken cognizance of the matter and sought a detailed explanation from the school principal, the concerned teacher, and the officials responsible for the lapse. The principal and teacher have been asked to appear in person before Director of School Education, Ashish Kohli, on Saturday. During the hearing, Singh admitted that he inadvertently committed the mistake due to lack of due diligence, a fact the Director denied. Kohli warned, "Any act of negligence, carelessness, or neglect towards official responsibilities that may tarnish the image of the department will invite strict disciplinary action as per the rules."
Directives for Disciplinary Action
The Directorate directed the Deputy Director of School Education (Primary), Sirmaur, to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the teacher under the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control, and Appeal) Rules, 1965, and submit an action report to the Directorate as soon as possible. The Directorate emphasized that the highest standards of accuracy, responsibility, and administrative propriety must be maintained when preparing and issuing official documents, including financial matters.
