How Can Fish Fry Survive in Dried-Up Ponds?
Hyderabad: With the state facing the threat of drought due to the impact of El Niño, the decisions being taken by the Fisheries Department have become a subject of debate. Fisherfolk are expressing concern over the decision to implement a free fish-seed distribution scheme—at a cost of Rs 133 crore—even though water levels in tanks have dropped drastically due to a severe lack of rainfall. The Fisheries Department has recently finalized tenders to stock fish and shrimp fry, free of cost, across 28,678 water bodies throughout the state.
