Motherhood Should Not Be a Barrier to a Woman's Career
"The Maternity Benefit Act, 1961, is not merely about protecting a woman's employment; it also ensures that upon returning to work after maternity leave, she is accorded the same status, dignity, and salary she held previously," the Delhi High Court clarified. The Court stated that downgrading the status of a female employee who had taken maternity leave amounts to discrimination and humiliation. "Motherhood should not be an obstacle to a woman's career. An employee should not lose her status due to maternity leave," it asserted.
