New Delhi: The Supreme Court has clarified that if an individual intends to sell inherited agricultural land, they must first offer it to their co-heirs. Under Section 22 of the Hindu Succession Act, 1956, priority must be given to "Class-I legal heirs," and they must be asked if they wish to purchase the land. The property may be sold to outsiders only if the co-heirs decline the offer. It stated that Class-I heirs have the right to claim priority.
