Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership on Thursday (local time). According to Russia Today, Putin described him as a "wise leader." He said that PM Modi thinks about his country first. Putin said that both India and Russia have a "special" relationship.

"I believe the people of India do not forget this and our relationship. About 15 years ago, we announced a special strategic partnership. That is the best description. Prime Minister Modi is a very wise leader who thinks about his country first," Putin said, as quoted by Russia Today.
Discussing bilateral issues with India
This development of the Russian President praising PM Modi comes amid reports of Putin's visit to India later this year. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is also expected to visit India to discuss bilateral issues and preparations for the summit before President Putin's visit.
Putin may visit New Delhi in December
On September 27, at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Lavrov announced that the Russian President is planning to visit New Delhi in December, marking ongoing diplomatic preparations.

Meanwhile, speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club on the issue of US tariffs on Indian imports, President Putin stressed that if India stops buying Russian oil, it could suffer economic losses of $9 to $10 billion. He expressed confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not bow to any foreign pressure and also supported India's dignity and strategic autonomy.
