In the Assembly elections held in Tamil Nadu, the State Chief Minister and DMK supremo, Stalin, suffered a defeat. Contesting from the Kolathur constituency, Stalin was defeated by VS Babu, a leader from the TVK party. He lost the election by a margin of 9,000 votes. While V.S. Babu secured over 82,000 votes, Stalin polled nearly 73,000 votes. AIADMK's Santhanakrishnan was relegated to third place with approximately 14,000 votes. This marks the first time since 1996 that the DMK chief has faced defeat.
