50% Surcharge on Foreign Cars in Sri Lanka
In light of the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the Sri Lankan government has decided to take measures to safeguard its foreign exchange reserves and prevent a depreciation in the value of its currency. As part of this initiative, a policy decision was taken to discourage the importation of cars from abroad for a period of at least three months. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake—who also holds the Finance portfolio—issued orders on Saturday imposing a 50 percent surcharge on cars imported from foreign countries.
