Cough medicine should not be used in children under two years of age: Centre
The Union Health Ministry has warned against using cough syrup for children under two years of age. Recently, 11 children died due to cough syrup in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. 9 people died in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh. Five of them were found to have consumed ‘Coldref’ and one was found to have consumed ‘Nextro’ syrup. However, the Centre suspects that the deaths may have been caused by the chemicals used in the syrups.
