State Governments Possess That Authority
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has upheld the laws enacted by the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu banning online betting and gambling. The Bench held that, pursuant to Entry 34 of List II in the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution, State Governments possess the authority to prohibit or regulate betting and gambling, and may enact laws to this effect. This verdict was delivered by a Bench comprising Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Justice R. Mahadevan.
