TET mandatory for teacher jobs; NET for lecturer posts
New Delhi: The Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that individuals who have not passed the TET or NET exams cannot be appointed as teachers or lecturers. It clarified that no one lacking the prescribed qualifications—as mandated by the National Council for Teacher Education and UGC regulations—should be appointed as a teacher. A three-judge bench led by Justice Surya Kant issued these key directives while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the 2017 law regarding the regularization of teacher services in Assam.
